YMCA youth sports provide recreational activities in a team setting with an emphasis on FUNdamentals in a Christian environment. Children are encouraged to participate, learn and grow in skills, confidence and character. Parents, volunteers and staff who are committed to the values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY support our leagues. History of Youth Sports at the YMCA
YMCA involvement in youth sports dates back to the late 1800s. People within the YMCA invented some of the most popular sports. James Naismith invented basketball at the YMCA's school for Christian workers in Springfield, Massachusetts. Then in 1895, William Morgan at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts, invented volleyball.
Youth Sports Today
Here at the Clarksville Area YMCA Kimbrough Family Center we are continuing the development of youth participation in sports through our Youth Basketball Program. Playing in a YMCA league means equal playing time for all. Development of our youth is more important than winning.
Youth Basketball
Youth Basketball registration for students in grades 1-8 begins in the month of September. Practices begin in November and the actual season starts in December. Dates are subject to change due to registration, league size, make-up games and other factors. All participants must be either a YMCA facility member or program member.
Please Volunteer
Please remember the YMCA depends on your support as a volunteer. We need coaches, assistant coaches, site monitors, team assistants and more to get involved! It's a uniquely rewarding experience to help your child or another child learn a new skill. Let's not forget those who influenced our lives as children. We here at the YMCA want to help you carry on that tradition.
Insurance
The YMCA does not carry accident insurance for any of its program participants. Participants are responsible for their own insurance.
