After Breast Cancer (ABC)Outreach Program
The Cool Springs YMCA proudly sponsors the ABC Outreach Program which supports survivors of breast cancer.
Through the generous support of We Build People Annual Giving Campaign, Susan G. Komen For The Cure, Tennessee Breast Cancer Colition and the United Way of Williamson County we can offer this program free of charge to all breast cancer survivors who are either YMCA facility or program members. We request a $20 fee to become a program member for those who have the ability to pay.
The program includes a 16 week membership to the Cool Springs YMCA. Participants meet with a personal trainer and a registered dietician to improve their strength, range of motion, and evaluate their nutritional needs. Also, monthly educational seminars are held the 1st Tuesday of each month which are led by community professionals.
The program will begin with a pre-assessment. Next, the participants will meet with a personal trainer who will administer a baseline assessment and design an individual program. The participants may also have an opportunity to meet with a registered dietician who has done extensive research with breast cancer survivors. The personal trainers are readily available for questions or re-evaluations. Participants may come anytime the facility is open to establish their exercise regimen.
DS-2 for Healthier Kids
DS-2 is a free 12 week program for YMCA members or a program fee of $20 for non-members; however, participants are not disqualified for inability to pay. Each week, the child along with the parents will have the opportunity to meet with a personal trainer. The trainer will design a program that increases strength, endurance and flexibility. Three times during the 12 weeks, the child/family meets with the Registered Dietitian to evaluate and make changes in the dietary habits of the child/family. We offer a "Stronger Me" journal to help the child log their thoughts and feelings. The goal of the program is to see children gain self-confidence, manage their weight and learn the fundamentals of exercise.
