From local street corners to the hallways of government power, the Y is working to advocate for public policies that can strengthen our community through the promotion of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. When you advocate for the Y, you lend your voice to a movement that's committed to nurturing the potential of kids, improving the nation's health and well-being and providing opportunities to give back and serve others.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Tennessee Obesity Task Force
Formed in 2007, the Tennessee Obesity Task Force is a statewide coalition which links scientists, clinicians, city planners, school officials, state agencies, policymakers, transportation experts, nutritionists, parents, and representatives of our most vulnerable populations in an effort to address our state's health and obesity crisis. Pioneering Healthier Communities
Healthier Communities is a YMCA initiative that brings together community leaders to find ways to improve our collective health and well-being. Partnering with leaders from all sectors of society, PHC seeks to promote public policies and environmental changes that make it easier for all of us to live a healthy and active lifestyle. In doing so, the initiative seeks to address the three main risk factors – physical inactivity, unhealthy eating and tobacco use—that are contributing to an alarming rise in the number of friends and neighbors suffering from chronic diseases including diabetes, stroke, heart disease and several types of cancer.
