COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

The Y is a leading member of the following community partnerships and initiatives. We encourage you to learn more about them and support their activities to strengthen our community.

Tennessee Obesity Task Force

Formed in 2007, the Tennessee Obesity Task Force is a statewide coalition which links scientists, clinicians, city planners, school officials, state agencies, policymakers, transportation experts, nutritionists, parents, and representatives of our most vulnerable populations in an effort to address our state's health and obesity crisis. You can learn more about the task force and its advocacy efforts at eatwellplaymoretn.org.

Pioneering Healthier Communities

Healthier Communities is a YMCA initiative that brings together community leaders to find ways to improve our collective health and well-being. Partnering with leaders from all sectors of society, PHC seeks to promote public policies and environmental changes that make it easier for all of us to live a healthy and active lifestyle. In doing so, the initiative seeks to address the three main risk factors – physical inactivity, unhealthy eating and tobacco use—that are contributing to an alarming rise in the number of friends and neighbors suffering from chronic diseases including diabetes, stroke, heart disease and several types of cancer.

For more information on Pioneering Healthier Communities, contact the Y's Ted Cornelius by calling (615) 259-9622.

NASHVILLE ON THE MOVE

Held the first Friday of every month, Nashville on the Move is a free lunchtime walking event designed to help employees become more active during their workday. Nashville on the Move also encourages companies to take steps to improve their employees' health by taking the following specific measures:

• Activity breaks throughout the day
• Serving healthy meeting food and snacks
• Making water the primary workplace drink

Nashville on the Move is organized by the YMCA of Middle Tennessee's Pioneering Healthier Communities initiative in partnership with Metro Public Health and area business partners.
