Wellness
Our positive commitment to programs that strengthen the spirit, mind and body is evident in all our health and fitness classes. All of our wellness programs offer a wide variety of choices to meet the needs, interests and diversity of our community. The wellness center is open to all our members, age 14 and older. Members ages 10-13 may work out upstairs with their parent or guardian, or may participate in Youth Strength Training (see below for more information). Most wellness programs are free to members.A Health & Wellness Evaluation powered by Microfit and an Equipment Orientation will start you on your pathway to better health and well being.
Lifestyle Interviews take a closer look at each individual's needs, and lead you into Restore Ministries that include the programs of Personal Fitness and Power to Choose.

Youth Orientation Certification
A class especially designed for members ages 10-13 who want to learn how to use the exercise equipment on the wellness floor. With 4 to 5 hours of instruction, children will learn how to safely use pieces of cardiovascular and strength training equipment in addition to important information on stretching, nutrition and much more! Once "graduated" from the training, participants will be able to use specific exercise equipment in the Wellness Center.
Equipment Orientations
Our orientations familiarize you with different cardiovascular and strength training machines. By appointment, a trainer demonstrates proper form and body alignment, and offers suggested weight, pace and repetitions. Set a second appointment two to three weeks later to meet with the trainer to check your form and answer questions. Both appointments compliment each other to ensure you are having positive progress.
First Steps
Our first steps program is a great way for members who are new to exercise (or who have taken a very long break from exercise and want to jump back on the band-wagon)! It allow them to create a lifestyle change that incorporates physical activity. Members work with specially selected wellness coaches who help them to become comfortable in the wellness center, introducing them to a complete cardio and weight workout one step at a time! A 12 week program, members who participate in First Steps typically meet with their coach several times as they gradually progress to a more fit lifestyle. FREE to members!
For more information about First Steps, call Jessi Slayden at (615) 565-6282.

Personal Training
Our trainers can work with you regularly or on a consulting basis to help design a workout that is uniquely yours. Trainers encourage you to exercise and reach your goals. Our Sr. Director of Fitness, Michelle Petrin, will match you with a trainer based on your objectives. Trainers are YMCA, ACE and CPR certified as well as ASCM, CSCS or NSCA - CPT certified. Trainers must be employed by the YMCA. Members may not provide their own trainers.
To schedule personal training, please contact Michelle Petrin at (615) 565-6266.
Group Training
Try a fun and efficient way to get in shape while sharing the cost of a personal trainer. One trainer is assigned to four participants giving you the "personal touch" as well as the added motivation and support from others in your group. You may choose three others to begin your group or they can be assigned.
Pilates®
Designed by Joseph Pilates, this challenging workout will stretch and strengthen while focusing on fundamentals of pelvis stabilization, correct use of breath, postural alignment and balance. Advanced classes provide for a higher level of intensity. Approval must be given to the participant by the Pilates instructor before advancing into Intermediate or Advanced classes. Class is limited to 8 participants. Each session lasts 50 minutes.
All Green Hills YMCA Pilates Instructors are fully certified members of the Pilates Guild based in New York City. The certification begins with at least 150 hours of training followed by a 600 hour apprenticeship. Instructors must attend continuing education classes each year to maintain their certification.
