At the YMCA, we want to ensure our wellness floor is a welcoming space where all members can get stronger and healthier. Here are 5 simple things you can
continue to do to help us make exercising at the Y a positive experience!
1. Keep It Short
If you’re on a cardio machine during a busy time of day, please limit your use to 30 minutes. If there are plenty of open machines, don’t worry about it!
2. Keep It Organized
Adding weights to your workout routine is a great way to build strength and endurance…when you don’t have to go on a scavenger hunt to find the dumbbells. Don’t drop heavy weights on the ground after a set, and be sure to re-rack when you’re done.
3. Keep It Clean
No one wants to use a germy machine! When you’re finished with a piece of equipment, please wipe it down. And you only need to spray the towel; spraying cleaning solution directly onto a machine can get into the equipment’s cracks and crevices.
4. Keep It Off
For the sake of your privacy and your neighbor's, please keep those phone conversations off the floor. We want all members to have a focused, encouraging experience, and phone calls are distracting, so wait until you’re off the floor to make your calls.
5. Keep Them Safe
YMCA guests need to be 14 years of age or older to use any piece of equipment on the wellness floor. Children between 10-13 can use certain pieces of equipment (ratings are on each machine), but they must be in arm’s reach of a parent at all times.
If you’ve got a child in this age range who’s begging to fly solo, no problem! The Y offers a daily Youth Strength Training Course by appointment that’ll teach your child how to properly use our equipment. All you need to do is swing by the front desk and sign them up.
These small things have a big impact on making the YMCA a great place to exercise. Thanks for doing your part!
