Meet Our New Staff Members

May 27, 2019

We are thrilled to welcome three new people to the Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA family: Sabrina Osse (Membership Coordinator), Michelle Simpson (Aquatics Director), and Chris Willis (Property Coordinator). We asked them a few questions to help our members get to know a little about them.

How did you get started at the YMCA?

  • Sabrina:“I started with the YMCA of Middle Tennessee as a camp counselor at Camp Widjiwagan. It was there during that summer where I understood that the Y was more than a 'gym and swim.' The following year, I joined School Aged Services as a Site Director, and my remaining Y time has been with Fun Company until coming to Donelson.”
  • Michelle: “I came to the YMCA as a child for after school care, day camp, and swim team. It was natural for me to start my career with the Y because it was a second home for me.”
  • Chris: “I was hired on for the property department at Camp Widjiwagan. I was there for a year before transferring to the Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA.”

What do you enjoy about the YMCA?

  • Sabrina: “I enjoy coming to work every day because I know that we are making a difference. Whether it's providing safe spaces for children after school or helping someone reach their health goals or being that space for our seasoned members to come and fellowship with others, our presence makes a difference. When things get a bit crazy/busy/overwhelming, I'm often drawn back to the moment I heard a parent (whose first language was not English) say, ‘Thank you for helping my child with his homework.’ Experiences like these motivate me to show up every day and continually live out the cause.
  • Michelle: “I am very passionate about the mission of the YMCA and that we are all inclusive organization. I love that here at the Y, we strive to make everyone feel welcome, regardless of who they are. I also love that we don’t turn anyone away that can’t afford to pay. We are one big team that strives to meet the needs of our community.”
  • Chris: “I love working here at the Donelson Y because of the great team spirit the staff has. What makes my job interesting is that every day is different as far as what I will be doing. For example, I spent my first week at with the Y waist deep in mud and water in 40 degree temperature repairing busted water pipes at Camp Widjiwagan.”

Tell us something about YOU.

  • Sabrina: “I enjoy serving internationally, trying new foods, and spending quality time with my family.”
  • Michelle: "My husband Jay also works for the Y at Camp Widjiwagan; we call ourselves the ‘Y Family.’ Two of my three children swim competitively year round and also keep me busy with other sports such as softball, horseback riding, basketball, football and soccer. I am originally from South Carolina and have lived in Knoxville, TN and just moved here from Seattle."
  • Chris:“I have three ‘fur kids:’a dog (Sega), a cat ( Thomas), and a turtle (Mr. T). My favorite thing to do is go camping and four-wheeling with friends.”
