Preschool
(Ages 12 months up to 5 years - until they begin kindergarten)The YMCA Preschool is designed to facilitate "hands-on" age-appropriate learning experiences in a manner that captures and expands on a child's interest. The environment will be one that invites young children to explore and manipulate the materials around them. Play is the work of children. A child's natural desire to play can and should be incorporated into the curriculum. The functions of play are important to understand because they lay the foundation for a child's life-long learning: Play leads to discovery, reasoning and creative thoughts; play is a bridge to developing positive social relations; and play leads to happy, self-confident children.

Preschool Fees:

There is a $30 per child ($50/2+ children) annual registration fee and a $30 per child annual activities fee due upon initial enrollment and annually thereafter. We offer limited financial assistance based on household income as of enrollment, should funds be available. We also accept DHS certificates. We have a waiting list for all classrooms. If you would like, you may place your child on our waiting list at the member service desk. When an opening becomes available, we will contact you for a tour and orientation.
Head Start
Our preschool has partnered with the local Metro Action Commission (MAC) Head Start program which began in 2000. We offer two Head Start classrooms that serve 36 children ages 3-5 years. Enrollment is limited to those families who meet the federal income guidelines. This program is monitored by the federal government and meets the traditional Head Start guidelines and curriculum requirements. The program runs from 8am to 2pm and offers a catered breakfast and lunch for the children. Before and/or after care is provided by our preschool staff at an additional charge. We do not provide transportation. The program is open year-round.
