Join us poolside as we celebrate "Christmas in July" with a member potluck meal, music and a visit from a very special guest.



Swim Lessons
The Maury County Family YMCA swim programs follow the National YMCA Guidelines for swimming lessons. At each level, there are skills taught from each of five components: personal safety, stroke development, water sports, and games and rescue. The preschool, youth, adult and teen classes meet for 45 minutes, and the parent/child classes meet for 30 minutes daily. The instructor/participant ratios are as follows: parent/child and upper level youth (minnow and up) are 8:1. Beginner youth classes (polliwog and guppy) and teen and adult lessons are 6:1. Preschool classes are 4:1.

Community CPR
This one-day basic class is a great resource for anyone! Class fee includes book and card.

Times: 4-8 p.m.
Fees: $30/members; $40/non-members; $20/seniors



YMCA Lifeguarding Program/CPR/First-Aid
The YMCA lifeguard course is designed to provide the participants with the knowledge and skills needed to be a lifeguard. It presents information lifeguard need in pool, lake, river, surf and water park environments…and information on how to get a job as a lifeguard. CPR and Professional Resurcer, Automatic External Defribrillation, Oxygen Administration and First Aid certifications are included in this course.

Pre-requisites
Age 16**. Those under the age of 18 must have paAvailability permission.
Pass the following swim test:
Long shallow dive, swim 500 yards (10 laps), including 100 yards each of side stroke, front crawl, breaststroke, side stroke kick with one arm forward and inverted breaststroke kick with arms on the stomach.
Tread water two minutes, legs only.
Surface dive both head and feet first into 8-10 feet of water, swim underwater 15 feet.
**16 year olds cannot be certified in YMCA Lifeguard Courses. They may however be certified in American Red Cross with additional requirements.

Be able to accomplish these tasks:

Remain alert, with no lapses of consciousness.
Sit for extended periods, including in an elevated chair.
Communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distances, and communicate swiftly and effectively with emergency personnel over telephone and in person.
Hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment with background noise.
Observe all assigned sections of the water environment.
Perform all needed rescues and survival skills.Think in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise and remember.
Operate alone as a lifeguard, without other lifeguards for support.
Medical clearance for both physical and mental ability is recommended.

Course Schedule
Course time is 45 hours (33-35 classroom hours, 10-12 pool hours) plus 2 hour practical experience.

Water Exercise Classes
See the group fitness class schedule for the latest dates and times.

Water Aerobics
This class is a 60-minute class which provides mid to high cardiovascular training along with muscular endurance. The intensity is equal to land aerobics but with little impact on the joints. Great for any fitness level.

Deep Water Jog
This is a 60-minute class which is instructed in the 6 ft. area of the lap pool. This class is an interval training workout. Great for cross training and athletes who are recovering from an injury. The class provides a high intensity cardiovascular workout without any impact on the joints.

TWWE I (Transitional Warm Water Exercise I)
This class is designed to decrease pain and stiffness and increase joint flexibility. This class is ideal for anyone who may be suffering from arthritis, fibromyalgia, surgical post-rehabilitation, any chronic fatigue illness. There is no cardiovascular segment. The instructors are certified through the Arthritis Foundation. Free to Facility Members!

TWWE II (Transitional Warm Water Exercise II)
The class is designed for anyone who has advanced past the TWWE I class. The class is slightly more intense than TWWE I and has a low intensity cardiovascular component. This transitional class is for graduates of TWWE I who are not ready to mainstream back into a traditional class. Free to Facility Members!
