An investment in Our Community’s Future: Why the Y is for Youth Development

GIVING EVERY CHILD A CHANCE

At the Y, we’re for Youth Development. And that means nurturing the potential of every child and teen who comes through our doors.

We believe all kids deserve the chance to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why through the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, more than 150,000 young people today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors and better health and educational achievement.

Why do we do it? Because we know investing in our kids today is an investment in our community that will pay off tomorrow. And we know the values learned early on are vital building blocks for life.

That’s why all of our programs for Youth Development are designed to:
  • Foster a sense of belonging, an essential ingredient for positive youth development
  • Connect youth and teens with caring adults who can serve as role models and mentors
  • Improve the literacy skills necessary to achieve academic and life success
  • Teach the Y’s character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Equip children with the skills they need to make healthy life choices

Every child matters

No matter when or where—be it at summer camp, a sports field, a classroom or youth outreach center—the Y is committed to giving every child it reaches the opportunity to discover their purpose and pursue their passions. It’s an investment we know can change lives today and build a brighter tomorrow for everyone in our community.
