Wellness
The YMCA movement and its commitment to health and wellness is so strong, it created the sports of basketball and volleyball, as well as YMCA methods for swim instruction that have become the standard in teaching people how to swim. However, fitness is just one part of a larger whole, not a separate activity of the YMCA's other programs and services. The YMCA has never focused on the body alone, because for over a century the Y has recognized that person has achieved total health when his/her spirit, mind and body are balanced.
Equipment Orientations
Equipment orientations are for all YMCA members and are FREE. An equipment orientation gives the member the opportunity to become more knowledgeable and comfortable with the fitness equipment in both the machine and free weight areas. A trained YMCA Fitness Team member will show you the proper techniques on using certain strength training machines and cardiovascular equipment. We suggest that the equipment orientation is broken down into three appointments, but they can be structured to meet the needs of the member.
Each orientation will take approximately one hour to complete. Please wear workout clothes and shoes. Make your appointment now at the member service desk.
Microfit® Evaluations
A great place to start! An evaluation is a great motivational tool that provides a baseline of knowledge in developing your exercise objectives. Each individual receives a computerized printout with their results. The fitness evaluation includes height, weight, resting heart rate, blood pressure, body composition analysis using skin fold calipers, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and flexibility. Please wear loose-fitting clothes such as a T-shirt and shorts, women should wear a sports bra under their shirt. By appointment ONLY made at Member Services.
Microfit® includes:
Dietmaster
Dietmaster is a revolutionary nutritional planning tool that will help you design a meal plan that will aid you in achieving all of your health and fitness goals. Make sure to sign up for a free 3-day meal plan (no fee), or go more in-depth with an extreme nutrition makeover that will provide more customized and thorough meal choices (purchased through Member Services Desk).
Youth Strength Training Certifications
For youth ages 9-12 who would like to use the wellness center, this certification is required. Make an appointment at the member service desk. Once "graduated" from the training, participants will be able to use specific exercise equipment in the Wellness Center.
Participants learn YMCA mission and values, basic fitness principles, exercise equipment instruction and safety, and gym etiquette. Every Youth Member is given a one-on-one orientation of the exercise equipment during the workshop and will receive a badge to allow them to workout on the Wellness Floor. FREE to members!
Personal Training
Personal training can make a difference in the success of your program. Our trainers can work with you regularly or on a consulting basis to help design a workout that is uniquely yours. Trainers encourage you to exercise and reach your goals. Trainers are YMCA, CPR and First Aid AED and Oxygen, and NSCA or ACSM certified. Trainers must be employed by the YMCA. Members may not provide their own trainers. Contact the member services desk for more information.
