Latino Achievers

YMCA Latino Achievers empowers Latino youth by providing the resources and support they need to excel in high school, gain access to higher education, take advantage of scholarship opportunities and find their career path.

Y-LA seeks to increase the college application rates and the college enrollment rates for Latino/Hispanic youth in Middle Tennessee. This includes helping students access opportunities that contribute to their college readiness and ability to meet college access requirements. We provide weekly club meetings, college tours, ACT workshops, and more. Y-Latino Achievers serves youth ages 14-21.

  • Our Program Goals
    • Strengthen character, leadership skills and academic success for Latino youth through college preparation and career exploration
    • Foster an inclusive community among Latino high school students
    • Prepare students for the ACT, college career
    • Provide hands-on workshops on subjects such as communication skills, personal finance and goal setting
    • Connect young Latinos with potential employment and volunteer opportunities
    • Recognize and award excellence in deserving high school and college students by providing scholarship awards
  • Latino Achievers After-School Club

    YMCA Latino Achievers hosts after-school clubs at local high schools, where students participate in hands-on workshops focused on success, team-building and leadership. Students also engage with guest speakers.

    • Metro Nashville High Schools: Antioch, Cane Ridge, Glencliff, Hunters Lane, MLK Magnet, McGavock and John Overton
  • ACT Tutoring/Boot Camps

    Latino Achievers provides ACT prep workshops and boot camps to empower students with test-taking skills and strategies, opening doors to enrollment and scholarship opportunities.

    • Cost: Free
    • ACT Prep & Boot Camp Dates/Hours: 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on select Saturdays
    • Location: Varies
  • Scholarship Program

    YMCA Latino Achievers awards college scholarships each year to deserving high school seniors and college students in our program. Scholarships are awarded by the Latino Achievers scholarship committee.

    • Application deadline: March
    • Who can apply: Students actively involved in Latino Achievers
