Swim Lessons
The YMCA of Scottsville & Allen County swim programs follow the National YMCA Guidelines for swim lessons. At each level, there are skills taught from each of five components: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games and rescue.
Attention moms, dads and grandparents! Make sure your children have a safe summer around the water by letting us teach them to swim and respect the water. Our swim lessons are an ongoing class that will fit your specific needs. You need to pre-register.
Saturday, August 16, 23, 30; Sept 6,13, 20 with John:
- Parent/Child (6-36 mos), 8-8:30am
- Preschool (3-6 yrs), 8:40-9:10am
- Youth (6-12 yrs), 9:20-9:50am
- Class size and duration are determined by the age and skill level of the child, and by the number of instructors available.
- Please contact the YMCA concerning possible class cancellations due to the weather. Make up classes will be announced.
- We are a Christian-based facility and we ask that you dress your children in conservative suits. All infants/toddlers must wear swim pants. Please bring a towel. If your child or children need eye protection, please purchase goggles without the facemask.
- Parents are welcome to sit on our pool deck and observe their child as long as their presence does not distract any participant.
- It is not uncommon for a child to take a class several times. We would like for each child to successfully complete each level before moving on to the next level.
- All our instructors are certified to teach swim lessons and most of them are certified lifeguards. These instructors are there to instruct your child or children how to swim, but the practice is up to the swimmer.
