Rules & Regulations
The purpose of our rules is to provide fair and reasonable guidelines that create consistency with how we manage our tennis program and serve our members. This page is a brief summary of our rules. For a full list of rules and regulations, please contact our tennis desk at 615-373-5120.
If you’re a tennis member, you can reserve a court for free up to three days in advance. Non-members may not reserve a court for recreational play. For our information on our reservation policies, visit our “reserve a court” page.
Every player on your court must check in at the court desk. If you are playing singles, we should have two names on the court sheet for your court; for doubles, we must have four names. You must present your member card at the desk. Guests must be with a tennis member and pay a $15 guest fee. Guest fees are waived for visiting city league teams and YMCA league teams playing on outdoor courts.
- Gym shorts/tennis skirt
- Non-marking shoes
- No jeans/cut-off shorts
Please follow proper tennis etiquette, especially when you arrive and leave the courts. Leave the court promptly when your scheduled time is over. If you get to a court at your scheduled time and someone is playing, wait until a point is complete and then walk onto your assigned court politely.
Please be courteous of other tennis members. Finish your match on time, and clean up after yourself.
Some of our courts are reserved for our Junior Development Program and for tennis lessons.
- Courts reserved for teaching Monday-Thursday from 4-6:30 p.m.
- Courts A-C are reserved on Saturdays from 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m. for junior development.
During the outdoor season …
- Outdoor courts C and D are reserved for lessons at all times.
- Courts A and B are reserved from 2-4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
During the indoor season …
- Indoor Courts C and D are reserved at all times for tennis lessons.
- Bubble courts 4 and 5 are reserved at all times for tennis lessons.
- All Bubble Courts are reserved Monday-Thursday from 4-6:30 p.m. for Junior Tennis.
Outdoor court usage is weather permitting. Members roll dry their own hard courts. When the weather is in question, please call the tennis court desk at 8 a.m. We will check the courts and give you the currently conditions; however, the decision on whether or not to play is up to the team captains.
Only tennis members may be a part of Maryland Farms Y teams in city leagues. Not abiding by the non-member rule results in your team’s loss of courts for home matches.
YMCA members who are not tennis members may join a Maryland Farms team by becoming a tennis member for three months. Your joining fee will be waived, but you must pay all three months in advance.
