CREATING A GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING
The Tennessee YMCA Model United Nations program offers high school and middle school students a hands-on experience with international government and the work of the United Nations. Each year, over 2,000 students from across the state come together to simulate serving in various capacities of the United Nations. Program participants take on the role of General Assembly representatives for a UN Member Country; These representatives write pieces of international legislation, called Resolutions, through the lens of their assigned country on a variety of topics of international importance.
Our high school programming also offers opportunities for participants to serve as member countries on the Security Council, lead departments in the Secretariat, argue real international case law in the International Court of Justice, or share pertinent information conference-wide as a member of the Department of Global Communications.
Over 80 students from across the state serve in elected Officer positions which are voted on by their peers during conferences; These students take on elevated roles such as General Assembly Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Liaisons, Security Council President, or even United Nations Secretary General. Each year, the CCE hosts a Leadership Conference for all statewide officers to further their leadership and character development and learn more about their positions and responsibilities.
High School Model United Nations conferences are 3-day events that take place in Murfreesboro. Middle School conferences offer a condensed one-day experience as intro to Model United Nations programming and take place both in Murfreesboro and regionally.
